The Two Essentials You Should Always Have In Your Closet

Blouse: Zara (sold out, similar version here & here), Jeans: AG, Heels: Express (sold out, similar version here), Tote: Old Navy, Watch: Daniel Wellington, Bracelet: Madewell, Necklace: Gorjana

As much as we all love the thrill of adding a new item to our closet, there’s something to be said about those existing pieces you continue to reach for time and time again – those tried and true staples that trigger an instant confidence the minute you put them on. For me, that combination usually looks a little something like this: a classic button-down and a great pair of black skinny jeans (I’ve tried countless brands and have yet to find any that rival the comfort and fit of this pair).

These are easily two of the most dependable and versatile items in my closet because they can be styled in so many ways and are appropriate for nearly every occasion. Heading to a job interview? Pair your jeans with a blazer for a more conservative look. Going on a date? Add a silk camisole and some heels. This pair is so comfortable, that I even find myself lounging in them as a more suitable substitute for sweats come the weekend. Regardless of how you choose to style them, a black pair of skinny jeans won’t let you down. And the same holds true for a classic button-down. I love the combination of the two together as seen here, but they can be mixed and matched with just about anything in your closet, so you can really maximize their wear. Tuck your blouse into some fitted jeans for a more sophisticated look, or tie the front into a knot over skirts and shorts for a more relaxed vibe. Regardless of the trends, season or occasion, these are two essentials that prove their versatility time and time again, so I’ll always make room for them, no matter how many shiny new pieces I add to the mix.
