I’ve always stayed in Manhattan when visiting New York, but I was so impressed by Brooklyn during a day trip last year, that this time, I decided to ditch Manhattan for its sister borough across the bridge. Most of the neighborhoods feel up-and-coming, lined with artsy streets that are home to hip cafes and bars. But on our last day, we discovered an area that captured the magic of old New York (something I’m personally partial to). The neighborhood I’m referring to is known as Dumbo (an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass). It’s paved with cobblestone streets and abandoned train tracks that make each corner feel like something off a movie set. And not only is it filled with historical charm, but the surrounding views are stunning. As special as it is being in the middle of Manhattan, looking at it from afar is almost more impressive. I can’t wait to go back.
