Simmering Holiday Potpourri

Simmering Holiday Potpourri - Adorned With Love

With all of the festive decorations and lights adorning the city lately, it’s hard to deny the holidays are upon us. Despite the obvious cues, though, I’ve been struggling to get into the spirit the same way I did as a child, back when I hardly needed the help of an advent calendar to know exactly how many days were left until Christmas. Since I’m not able to be home with my family as much as I’d like during this time of year, I thought incorporating a few of the traditions I grew up with might restore some of the ‘ holiday magic’ that used to come so easy. Nothing transports me back into time quite like a familiar scent, so I started by recreating the holiday potpourri recipe that my mom used to keep on the stove during the holidays. Just as I had hoped, it captured the entire season with just a few simple ingredients and sent an instant cozy, aroma throughout my entire home. Given that it was so easy to make, I decided to share our tradition by packaging the ingredients up along with a few simple instructions, to give as gifts to friends and family.

1 Orange
2 tbsp cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
1 bay leaf
1 cup Cranberries
Fir branch (optional)
2 cups water

Quarter the orange and place in a pot with all other ingredients. Add water and simmer over low heat. The recipe should maintain its scent for a couple of days. Add more water as needed.
