Are you familiar with the third piece rule? It’s a simple trick, but incorporating this one additional step has the ability to completely transform an average outfit into a stylish one. If you aren’t familiar, the third piece rule refers to an outfit that consists of three pieces of clothing, not including shoes. It usually comes in the form of a jacket, blazer, sweater, hat, statement accessory, or with a vest, like I’m wearing here. I’m generally a “less is more” advocate when it comes to fashion, so because I tend to keep my outfits pretty simple in color and style, I like to apply this trick to give them a little extra something. Not only does it keep things from looking too plain, but it’s nice to have an additional layer that’s easily removable; something I really appreciate this time of year with Southern California’s fickle fall weather.
